The Lodge was Consecrated in June 1970. The founders originated from the Deptford area and as such had links with the River Thames, as is indicated by our Lodge crest.
There was already a Deptford Lodge so Grand Lodge requested we name the Lodge Desaguliers, after the 3rd Grand Master.
With the demise of the work on the river, a number of Brethren became publicans, but have now retired, but are still active in the Lodge.
A number of our Brethren enjoy fishing, one having a son-in law who owns a fishing lake in France.
A number enjoy horse racing, and at one time held shares in race horses. One still does.
We have 2 Brethren who are Millwall season ticket holders and a few who are West Ham supporters. They have a friendly rivalry.

In 2015, the West Kent Freemasons donated over £3.25m towards the Masonic Samaritan Fund, which supports both Masonic and Non-Masonic Charities and many hundred of thousands of pounds continue to be donated to worthy and deserving causes across the Province, many of which receive no assistance from National, Local or any other form of funding sources.
The West Kent 2026 Festival is first, and foremost, about trying to support the needs of the most vulnerable in our communities. This is what freemasons do so well and we look, confidently to all the energetic and committed members in West Kent to ensure, and deliver, a successful Festival for 2026.
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. For many, its biggest draw is the fact that members come from all walks of life and meet as equals whatever their race, religion or socio-economic position in society. Freemasonry has always been about making good men better. Individuals aim to shape their lives round five core principles.
· Its values are based on integrity, kindness, honesty, fairness and tolerance.
Funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families, the Masonic Charitable Foundation is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country.
Most of the support provided by the Masonic Charitable Foundation takes the form of financial grants to individuals and families to assist with daily living costs. We can also award grants to provide specific items or services.
A range of health and care needs, including medical and dental treatments, counselling and mobility aids or home adaptations are supported, with funding also available for respite, residential, nursing and dementia care.
Our professional Advice and Support team offers confidential and practical guidance about the support available from the Masonic Charitable Foundation and many other organisations.
In addition to the support we provide to Freemasons and their families, the Masonic Charitable Foundation awards millions of pounds each year to local and national charities that help vulnerable people, advance medical research and provide opportunities for young people.
We also help to fund vital services such as hospices and air ambulances and regularly contribute to worldwide appeals for disaster relief. In total, our support helps to improve the lives of thousands of people every year in England, Wales and internationally.
The Foundation brings together the work of four national Charities which had been operating separately under various names since the early 18th Century.
The Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons (HFAF) which is now known as Freemasonry for Women is a fraternity for women and organised by women. It was founded in 1913 and membership is open to women of any race or religion, who are able to profess a belief in a Supreme Being. Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest secular fraternal societies. Freemasonry has evolved over the centuries as a system of moral guidance, characterised by allegory and symbolism. It is compatible with all religions enabling men and women of different faiths and backgrounds to follow a common purpose of living a moral life for the good of themselves and others. In the UK there are single sex fraternities such as ours and mixed Fraternities. Our precepts are taught by a series of ceremonies.
The Order of Women Freemasons is the oldest and largest Masonic organisation for women in this country and works on the lines of regular male Freemasonry. The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) have, in a statement issued in 1999, acknowledged the regularity and sincerity of women’s Freemasonry, although they do not officially recognise it and their members cannot take part. Many of our own lodges meet in temples owned by the men’s Order and informal relations are cordial and co-operative. Similarly, there is a reciprocal agreement extended to members of UGLE holding their meetings on our premises.
Women of any race or faith can join our Order but must be 21 years or older, be of good character and believe in a Supreme Being. Being formed in 1908 we have some 4,000 members grouped into over 300 Craft Lodges operating in the UK and overseas. Lodges meet a minimum of four times a year.
